Turk wins gold at International Physics Olympics

Onur Örnek, a student at Nilüfer Private High School, won the golden medal in the 38th International Physics Olympics, becoming the third physics winner for Turkey.In the event held in Isfahan, Iran, with the participation of 375 students from 75 countries, Turkey won three honorable mentions besides the golden medal. Talking to the press, Örnek said he had worked toward victory with his teachers and explained the difficulties he faced during the preparation process for a place on the national team and how he had even studied during his summer vacations. Örnek said, “It was easier compared to past years. I suffered misfortune in the experiment exam and my test tube broke. But despite my misfortunes, I won the medal.” Stating his goal was to become a physicist, Örnek said that he wants to study at an American university and later get a master’s degree in the US.
