The chemical resveratrol found in the grapes is being claimed to obstruct the growth of breast cancer cells and can fight the disease. A research carried out on the aspect has found that resveratrol found in grape wine can obstruct the development of the hormone oestrogen, which gives way to the growth of cancerous cells in the breast.
The discovery can be really helpful to those breast cancer patients, whose cancerous tumors have become dead against the hormonal treatment that is provided to stop the growth of the cancer cells. Though the problem can be treated through surgeries, but in some cases the cancerous cells become dead against all forms of treatment.
The researchers from Italy used conducted the research, where they tested the effect of the chemical substance on the various lines of breast cancer cells. The researchers found that the chemical reacted against the cells, thereby blocking the growth.
As per the head researcher of the study, Dr. Sebastanio Ando, from the University of Calabria, "Resveratrol is a potential pharmacological tool to be exploited when breast cancer becomes resistant to hormonal therapy”. The result of the research has been published in the journal called Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
